The goal of the Department of Code Enforcement is to gain voluntary compliance of local codes and ordinances to improve the health, safety, and value of the community. This is acheived through education of adopted ordinances, investigating alleged violations, and taking enforcement action where needed.

Every community struggles with vacant properties, dangerous buildings, property maintenance, trash, vegetation, and abandoned/inoperable vehicles. Studies have shown that these issues result in an increase in crime, decrease in property value, and increased safety and health risks. One focus of Code Enforcement is to target these areas with our Mission Statement.

Additional focus in on ensuring building code, rental properties, and business, contractor, and vendor licensing are maintained to legal and health requirements for the beneift of the occupants and customers.

Mission Statement: Compliance and Accountability through education, investigation, and fair and impartial enforcement of the established local Ordinances.

Vision Statement: To promote a Safe, Healthy, and Prosperous community where citizens can enjoy living, working, and playing within the comfort of the Town of Clayton.

Value Statement: Fairness, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Transparency (FIRST)
