Vocational & Charter
Regional vocational technical schools serve Delaware high school students. Polytech School District in Woodside serves Kent County. Bus service is provided from Clayton.

In 1995, the Delaware Legislature authorized public charter schools to provide for the opportunity to learn in a more diverse curriculum environment. Providence Creek Academy in Clayton serves grades K-8. First State Military Academy also in Clayton serves grades 9-12.  In nearby Dover, there is the Campus Community School, the Academy of Dover Charter School and the Positive Outcomes Charter School Inc.

Additional legislation in 1996 provided for School Choice (Title 14, Chapter 4). Parents may have the option to have their child schooled in a public school that does not serve their particular area. Districts, however, retain the authority to determine their own policies regarding choice. Parents are advised to consult with the affected district early.

Private Christian & Parochial

There are numerous private Christian and parochial schools serving the area. Holy Cross Elementary School in Dover and St. Thomas More Preparatory School in Magnolia are notable parochial schools.

Central Delaware Christian Academy, Capitol Baptist and Calvary Christian schools serve area students from their Dover locations. Caravel Academy, a private college-preparatory school in Bear, serves area students with bus service to Smyrna.

Homeschool

Delaware law (Title 14, Chapter 27) allows for individual and multifamily homeschools. To find out more about your rights and responsibilities as a home schooling parent, contact the Department of Education or the Delaware Home Education Association.
