Online Payments


The Town of Clayton is proud to announce the ability to have customers pay their utility or property tax bills on-line via credit/debit card or e-check. 
When you make your payment on-line, the Town Office does not receive your payment until the next business day at 8:00 a.m.  You are only allowed to carry over one month of late fees ($15 electric and $15 sewer) until the next billing cycle. 

You can also pay your bill via e-check.  You will have to enter your routing and account number.  Please verify this number before submitting.  If you enter your routing or your account number incorrectly, it will come back as a return check.  You will then be charged a return check fee of $30. 

It is important to know that e-checks and electronic payments can bounce since the money is not taken from the payee's bank instantly.  The payment can bounce just as with a traditional paper check.  There may be a fee or penalties assessed against the issuer of the e-check or the electronic payment just as with a bounced paper check.  If you have a return e-check or credit card payment, you need to call the Town Office at (302) 653-8419 to make your payment.  DO NOT go back on-line to make your payment.

If you have been disconnected, your bill must be paid in full.  Online payment of a disconnected account will not result in automatic reconnection as additional fees will be due.  No cash after hours.  There are no reconnections after 9:00 p.m.  Reconnection fees are as follows:  $25 (Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.), $50 (Monday - Thursday 3:31 p.m. - 7:59 a.m.), $75 (Friday - Sunday 3:31 p.m. - 7:59 a.m.)  You can call Customer Service at 302-653-8419.

 

The credit card processing company charges convenience fees for paying on-line. 

The fees are as follows:

  • Personal VISA (pinless) - $3.95 - Property Tax Only
  • Debit/Credit Cards - 2.95% of the total payment
  • E-check - $1.95 per submission

Please Note:  You will need your account number and your pin number to make a payment.  These are listed on your billing.  Payments by card or e-checks could take up to one (1) hour to process.  Please be aware of this if you are paying close to midnight.  You can only make one (1) on-line payment per day.  You cannot make split payments in the same day.  

If you are paying your new bill, please wait until after the first of the month to ensure it is fully caculated.  Unpaid portions of your bill could result in a late fee.
